Heartmade by Tanya

A passion for crochet and knitting led Tanya Lerdkasem to start a new venture for her handmade craft called Heartmade by Tanya. I have been following her work and I found her work filled with passion, beautiful soft colours and lovely designs. Here is what Tanya had to share about her passion… over to you Tanya…

When did you start your crochet work?
"My mum is a crochet & knitting goddess. She taught me simple stitches when I was eight. I remember the coin pouches I made and sold to my friends from school. That was my first sale. I didn't get serious about it until 6 years ago when I was pregnant with my son. I wanted to crochet and knit baby stuffs for him as part of nesting. That was when I really got into the anatomy of crochet and knitting. Again, my mum guided me. It was such a joy doing things together."
What inspired you to start this venture? And where do you get your inspiration from?
"I moved to Muscat about one a half year ago. I often uploaded my works into Crafty in Oman Facebook page. People started to notice my work and placing orders. I never thought it would turn into a home business. A very good way to occupy my time when kids are in school.
My inspiration comes from nature. I love earth tone and raw materials. Most of my early works are consist of beige and brown. I also follow seasons, which affect my color and style. You will see more sweet color and flowers during spring, and grey tone in winter."

Tell me something about your crochet classes.
"There are courses for beginner, intermediate and advance. Each course has four classes; meet once a week for two hours. Beginner gets to learn the basic stitches, make apple jacket, and slippers. Intermediate learns to make granny squares, flowers and lace borders. Advance has a choice to choose her own project. It is 20 rails per course including materials.
It has been a great pleasure teaching many talented students. Glad to see my students enjoy and addicted to crocheting. It was a fun and amazing experience to share something you love with others. I have gained many good friends out of this. We share our works and resources by keeping in touch. I’m going to form a yarn club once I get back from a long summer break. Stay tuned if you want to be part of this exciting group! "
